Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann is breaking up as it approaches closer to the sun. It's so far broken into over 40 fragments and continues to break up. There are many conspiracy theories that suggest one or more of the larger fragments will plunge to Earth, perhaps causing a catastrophe, but NASA has written these off saying the nearest fragment will be 5 million miles away from the Earth. The comet is scheduled to make a fly-by starting on May 13th.
