Delightful. I get to devirginate this particular category.
Solitar. Ecclectic Paganism, Solitary.
It is an interesting brand of paganism that lumps whichever aspects of the more famous traditions together one personally deems fit for use. No, it is not "making it up as you go". A lot of thought goes into this path. One primary aspect of this is that one does not belong to any covens or other such groups.
The main point of this is to take responsibility for your own path and fate, as it were.
Anyone may be a solitary practitioner of any religion, mind you.

Eclecticism is probably my favorite of all paths, because it isn't confined to any particular doctrine. To me it represents individuals thinking for themselves, and respecting others who do so.

Being a solitary practitioner is probably the best choice for attaining the most “growth”, in my opinion. Although, sometimes, those who do belong to groups and follow pre-established systems regard those of us who follow our own path as rebellious, in the best of cases, or childish or even as fools.

Terry Pratchett wrote: "The natural size of a coven is one." having said that, I find myself in the position of solitary practitioner basically all the time. I was very lucky in previous years to have my husband on the Path with me, we "sussed" things out and explored together. At one point we joined up with a teaching coven, because of the interesting discussions, presentations and especially the Circles... it is just so moving when a whole group chants together! But the coven came apart after a while. I think these associations are all temporary and it takes heart and skill to keep a "Dispute of Pagans" together over time. The way I see it, one is on one's Path all the time. So by default, a lot of the time one walks alone.
